The Oak Barn Restaurant is a privately owned, family run, 150 cover bar & restaurant.

We are currently one of the top rated restaurants in Mid Sussex and want a Chef to join our talented team to continue providing fantastic quality fresh dishes.

Our freshly made seasonal menu is key to our business. It features modern British cuisine that combine the classics alongside more contemporary dishes. We also run specials which change on a daily basis.

In addition to this we also cater for large group bookings, weddings, and buffets so there is always plenty of variety.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has innovation, creativity and attention to detail
  • Relishes in the pressure of a kitchen environment
  • Has a background in Gastro pubs or hotels
  • Ideally has their own transport
  • Is used to working with fresh ingredients and places heavy emphasis on quality and consistency
  • Has a good understanding of health & safety and food safety guidelines within the kitchen


Progression Prospects:

  • Very experienced Chef Team who are willing to encourage, teach and train
  • Opportunities for development and promotion
  • NVQ training courses are available for those wishing to further develop their career

Responsibilities:

  • Checking the cleanliness, organisation and standards within the kitchen
  • Assisting the brigade in the smooth, safe and efficient running of the kitchen operation
  • Responsible for the day to day running of any given section
  • Demonstrating a committed approach to the development of creative menus and service in the kitchen
  • Ensuring the quality of food is of the exceptional standard expected
  • Be aware of health and safety and hygiene regulations
  • Ordering on a daily basis, whilst keeping in mind stock usage, menu planning and business levels


Additional Information:

  • On average 45 hours per week with 2 complete days off
  • Salary negotiable depending on experience
  • Tips are on average £6,500 a year

The Oak Barn Restaurant is a privately owned busy restaurant situated in Mid-Sussex, close to Haywards Heath & Burgess Hill. We have a great reputation for high quality, fresh, locally produced food.

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and hard working part time Kitchen Porter / Assistant to be part of our team time and to work alongside our busy team of chefs.

The Role:
* Duties will be varied and after initial training will include helping to keep the kitchen clean
* Preparing the kitchen for service,
* Operating the dishwasher
* Hand dish washing
* Some basic food preparation.

The Candidate
* This would suit someone who expresses an interest in food and would like to spend time with chefs learning about food
* An outgoing character who is flexible and would like to progress.
* Positive Attitude and a great deal of energy
* Ability to perform duties which require speed, efficiency, organisation and possible heavy lifting.
* The legal right to work in the UK

Previous experience is not required although enthusiasm and a genuine interest in working in a busy kitchen with high standards of food hygiene is essential.

We are looking for an Deputy assistant manager to work closely with the manager and assistant manager to provide the customers with a memorable experience.
